Blood Angels Army Work in Progress

This post is a bit of a photo dump of many of the WIP photos I've taken, over the last few months, of my Blood Angels army.

This project has been my main hobby focus since September/October 2018 and I have recently just completed all the models shown below.

At some point, I'll post about the finished project and update my BA scheme recipe/process but for now... here the photos!

Nurgle Daemons Nurglings Work In Progress

Next up, following on from the Plague Bearers is a unit of cheeky Nurglings.

The Nurgle clour scheme I'm following worked so well on the Plague Bearers that I wanted to continue using it. However, I wanted to introduce an alternative colour scheme to some of the Nurglings so there was a bit of variety. In the end, I settled on following the same process, however, when it came to applying Bestigor Flesh >Ungor Flesh around the wounds, I airbrushed random Nurglings entirely in these colours. I think it works quite well!

These Nurgle Daemons are proving very quick to paint so hopefully I'll be able to complete these in the next couple of days.

Nurgle Daemons Plague Bearers

Here we have my first fully painted Nurgle unit! And I had an absolute blast painting them.

I used the colour scheme described here

The process and colours work well, however, I did screw up the base a bit so had to tweak the process and paints used for them on my future Nurgle Daemons. Anyway, I hope you like them!

Nurgle Daemons Plague Bearers Work In Progress

Quick WIP post covering the unit of Plague Bearers I've been working on... they're coming along nicely!

These photos were taken after I'd finished applying Blood For The Blood God to the wounds/boils... so nearly at the end of the process.

Work In Progress Blood Angels Combat Squad

Bit of a change of direction this week! As I ran out of Sylvaneth models, to ensure hobby progress, I turned to a Blood Angels Tactical Squad.

The red armour has been painted since earlier this year so this week I started picking out the details. I'm generally following a Blood Angels Legion paint scheme rather than the Chapter colour scheme - i.e. lots of Gold and Black (to accompany the red).

I posted my BA colour scheme here, however, since then I've altered the process. I will no longer use oil washes as they're just too fiddly (and smelly!)... especially now I've figured out a great technique using Army Painter/Matte Medium paints. In terms of the other colours used so far; the Gold is Citadel Liberators Gold, whilst the silver is Vallejo Model Colour Gun Metal and the black is Vallejo Model Colour Black.

I'll also be using 30K Blood Angels transfers where I can, alongside the 40k Company/Squad markings. This unit has the Blood Angels chapter symbol moulded on each shoulder pad so the opportunity to use the 30k transfers is limited.

Whilst I do have the full 10 man squad, I'm testing out painting 5 models per 'batch' to see if that makes the process more enjoyable. With this in mind, I'll continue to work on this unit over the next week or two. Life is busy at the moment so weekend painting time is limited.

8th Edition Midnight Launch

Just a quick post to mark the release of 8th edition of Warhammer 40,000. My local Warhammer store here in Bath held a midnight opening and I popped down with the wife to pick up my new toys!

I pre-ordered the full set.. the Dark Imperium starter box, Tactical Objective cards, both sets of dice (Wound trackers and Command die), new objective marker models, combat gauge and Index: Imperium 1.

As I'm currently working hard to complete all my outstanding scenery for the beginning of September, the new models will have to join my 'to do list' in a lower position than I'd like (obviously I want to build and paint them today!).

My plan is to  paint the Primaris Space Marines as Blood Angels and to help with improving the Blood Angels aesthetic I have ordered a couple of packs of Blood Angels Heads from ForgeWorld. I also have a few bits from the GW Blood Angels Upgrade Pack which I'll also add to the models. As for the Death Guard... I'm keen to paint them in a colour scheme close to the Horus Heresy era paint livery.

I've included a couple of photos taken from the launch after the break.
